Last night we played at "birdi's" on the square in downtown decatur. after some "technical difficulty" (katie's battery was going in her bass and we had to change that and the pa head had some bad inputs so, we had to get katie's bass amp) i think it went well. it was different playing in a bar/resturaunt where people are there to eat and drink and not necessarily listen to live music, but we had some surprise fans there that found us on myspace who were a great audience and nobody left screaming so... good gig. also, it helped i had control of the volume on the pa... i made us loud. we did have one "play the doors" guy. i don't know any doors, then he asked for pink floyd... nope, then he asked for bruce springsteen... i got nothing. so i told him he'd have to close his eyes and imagine bruce covering us... i am "the boss".

So we played java monkey with hollin gammage and her people this last saturday. they were great. i swear i couldn't get it together. i started one song halfway through, on another song i sang the same verse twice, ugh. we also had a die-hard fan in the audience who sang all of the songs at the top of her lungs including the guitar parts, which though flattering, was apperantly distracting to me so, i turned up the p.a. so i couldn't hear it so much and she proceded to tell us it was too loud. god bless her.

When and where else could this picture be taken, but at the little 5 points halloween festival and parade? This has been my favorite gig all year. First, i love halloween, second, Rob (the mc) was so nice and professional and took a chance on two unknown kids (kt was out of town). Festivals are great because people are there, whether they're there for you or not, you get an instant audience.

We played tonight at indie coffee and books. i love this place, but it's not doing so good (guess not enough people like coffee and books). the owners are super nice. we played outside in the cold and for someone who is not used to cold yet, it hurt my little fingers! it was basically a glorified practice cause we had like 3 people show up (thanks erin, willie, and waffa) although there were a few people who stopped and listened for a bit. we debuted my new song "grudge". mac and bit really fill it up and it's kinda rockin.

So, we played this past weekend at the "women in the mountains" festival. just me and mac played because bitner was at a conference in hershey, penn. (she says there's chocolate everywhere). this festival is on the way to being a really decent music fest, they had a couple of vendors, food, and caroline aiken showed up to play as a special guest. Mac and i camped saturday night, she in her tiny tent, and me in my tent with an air matress, battery operated fans, and my ipod that i had downloaded some tv shows on (she says she wasn't jealous, but i think she was lying). mac is a real camper and i am, well... i like to be comfy. it started raining late sat. night and was still raining sun., when we decided to just throw our crap in the cars without packing it and go to waffle house. rain included, it was a lot of fun.

These are mac's toes at the redlight gig (lisa we love you, but no more camera for you). We had a pretty good crowd (for us) and can i say that it was excellent to play at a music focused venue; the sound was good, the people were professional, and we did a pretty good job. we went out after, with the screaming fans, and shot some pool, laughed cried, drank....good times.

So the gig in connecticut was FUN. mac stayed at her folks and i stayed at and her friends jenn. and tiffany's condo (just M&K, no B.itner) with their dogs milo and dori. this freak of nature thing happened to jenn with a hair brush that shouldn't happen to a grown person thank god for tiffany. jenn. played with mac and me at molten java coffee house and with no disrespect to mac, jenn. hears exactly what the music needs. we're going to use her for the upcoming album and hoodoo her into joining the band. She will be mine!!!!

O.K., we survived "battle of the bands" in orlando. It was held at this bar, "faces" with no p.a. system. So, we did our first official loading of the van. The people running it were pretty nice although i'm still not entirely sure who they were. We played against this band "redboy" who had a couple of songs i really liked. THEY WERE LOUD. We went on after them with our stuff and i had a very drunk girl to ask me to "play something upbeat". The same girl after the show asked mac if she could borrow her guitar to play a song for the audience. mac, graciously enough, sent her to me. Thanks mac. Oh yeah, we stayed at bitner's parents house and they served us an excellent breakfast casserole.

Pine Lake Lakefest! What an afternoon of fun. We played outdoors overlooking the water and a warm, friendly crowd. Thanks to all who organized the event (especially Tommy and Mike the sound guy) and to all of our peeps who came to listen (Michael, Wayne, Korri, Jocelyn, Tree, Dawn, John and Frank).

We spent a wonderful afternoon with Melanie Hammet at Dede's Sound and Fury recording studio. Mel's new song "Cottonmouth" has been preserved for all eternity. What a humbling experience! The process was interesting and Melanie was so patient with us, bless her.  We will return to Sound and Fury in a few weeks to do a multi-track recording of a song that has yet to be decided.

8/20-21/05

It was a Mel Music Weekend! Hot in them thar hills, too. Gotta love Dahlonega. The Crimson Moon is a wonderful place that supports local and touring musicians and artists. Fine food, nice selection of local brews, kind people, great vibe. Please support this new venue!

Mambo Room, Peachtree Street, Atlanta, Georgia. First gig as a band! Not bad, considering (and considering so much, at that).  Many thanks to the friends who came to show their support and to all the musicians who played.
